TINK & GYRO | ENGAGEMENT | PALM SPRINGS, CA

A few weeks ago I shot my first engagement session for a friend. It was a bit stressful to say the least. Going into the first of anything I think is always a bit scary. Especially something like this. They will have these pictures forever, to show to their children and their children's children.
TINK & GYRO | ENGAGEMENT | PALM SPRINGS, CA

I spent a few weeks prior to the shoot trying to set up mentally what I needed to do to capture their LOVE on camera. Having such talented and good looking friends I can say it was not difficult (lol). Tink and Gyro in their spare time perform all sorts of acrobatics from stilt walking to fire spinning. (they were in the group of scarecrows performing at Escape from Wonderland this year in CA) We started shooting really early (well as early as we could) Luckily it was a beautiful day out at the Wellness park in Palm Springs. Being my first shoot for an engagement I was worried I wouldnt get "the shot". Our first idea was shooting them together having fun and just being natural with what they love to do together, We got a few shots of them walking on stilts ( not the easiest to do because they have to be constantly moving to stay balanced). On top of that everyone was looking at us very intrigued with what was going on.

We got some GREAT shots and they were happy with the end result. I was extremely happy with the end result. They were great to work with and genuinely happy. Even though I was happy with the end result I had a feeling like there was something missing. I let it go for a few weeks until I revisited the pictures for this blog I realized what it was. It was not that we didn't get enough shots, but one more change of setting would have made this shoot perfect. So for all of you searching on what to do on your first Engagement shoot. All I have to say is LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!. Go out and shoot at least 3 different locations do more if you have the chance. Its always better to have more and not need it than to have less and need to go back and get more. Make sure you are talking to your couple and ask for their suggestions. Take enough candids and pictures of just settings and objects they love. The posed pictures are lovely, but the natural moments are usually the best out of the bunch.
